Lone Star State tripleheader on tap for USMTS Modifieds
May 8, 2012
WACO, Texas -- The United States Modified Touring Series heads back to the Lone Star State for a tripleheader this Thursday, Friday and Saturday, May 10-12.
One driver could walk away with more than $10,000 during the 50-hour stretch.
Friday’s USMTS Casey’s Cup Series event will be a $2,000-to-win race sandwiched between two USMTS National Championship Series shows paying $4,000 to win each on Thursday and Saturday.
On Thursday, the series returns to the Heart O’ Texas Speedway in Elm Mott (just outside of Waco) for the second straight year, and then on Friday it’s off to the first-ever event for the USMTS Modifieds at the RPM Speedway in Crandall. The weekend wraps up Saturday at the Cowtown Speedway as the series makes its third visit to the popular bullring in Kennedale.
The first stop will be a $4,000-to-win USMTS National Championship Series event at the Heart O' Texas Speedway where defending USMTS National Champion Ryan Gustin picked up the win last year in the series’ first-ever visit to the quarter-mile high-banked dirt oval.
Hot laps will begin at 7:00 (draw cut off 6:45) with racing at 7:30. The Heart O’ Texas Speedway is located 7 miles north of Waco on I-35 at exit 343. Call 254-776-1576 for more information or 254-829-2294 on race day or visit the track’s website at www.heartotexspeedway.com.
Stop #2 will be the inaugural race at the RPM Speedway and a points race in the USMTS Casey's Cup Series powered by Swan Energy paying $2,000 to win. The 2012 season marks the fourth year of operation for the quarter-mile dirt oval which features USRA Modifieds as part of the regular Friday night program.
Gates open at 5:00, hot laps are at 7:00 (draw cut off 6:45) and racing begins at 7:30. The RPM Speedway is located southeast of Crandall on US 175 to CR 4106 (Bud Stoy Rd. exit) to the intersection of CR 4104. For more information, call 972-427-6822 or check out www.rpmspeedwayoftexas.com online.
The last stop of the weekend will be at the Cowtown Speedway in Kennedale. This too is a USMTS National Championship Series race paying $4,000 to win and, again, Gustin is the defending race winner.
2010 USMTS National Champion Jason Hughes finished fourth in the 2008 event while three Cowtown locals – George White, Bryan Sugg and Glenn Leuschner – successfully defended their home turf and claimed the top three spots.
Pits open at 4:30, hot laps at 6:15 (draw cut off 6:00) and racing to begin at 6:30. The Cowtown Speedway is a quarter-mile high-banked clay oval located off of I-20 at exit 442-A, then 1.7 miles southeast on Mansfield Hwy., then 1.4 miles southwest on New Hope Rd. For day-of-race information, call 817-478-9952 or check out www.cowtownspeedway.com on the World Wide Web.
In addition to Gustin and Hughes, drivers expected for this weekend’s trio of shootouts include nine-time USMTS National Champion Kelly Shryock, USMTS Casey's Cup Series points leader Rodney Sanders, Terry Phillips, Stormy Scott, Johnny Scott, Chase Junghans, 2007 USMTS National Champion Jason Krohn, Dereck Ramirez, Bryan Rowland, Austin Siebert, Rick Beebe, Chris Brown, Jon Tesch, Zack VanderBeek, Mike Sorensen, Ryan Ruter, Brandon Davis, Randy Timms, Al Hejna, Jeremy Payne, Corey Dripps, Ron Keith, Daniel Hilsabeck, Steven Whiteaker Jr., Casey Penn, Clyde Dunn Jr., Tristan Dycus, Shane Hebert, Sean Jones, Chase Allen and more.
