Featherlite Fall Jamboree silent auction, 50/50 proceeds to benefit Special CARE
September 16, 2012
SPRING VALLEY, Minn. -- Proceeds from the 50/50 drawings and the silent auction at this year's Featherlite Fall Jamboree will benefit Special CARE, which provides specialized direct care, education and therapy services to children with and without special needs. One lucky ticket holder will get a share of the nightly 50/50 drawing too.
In addition, officials will highlight the top 12 qualifiers each night, and auction off their spot through a silent auction held at the USMTS souvenir trailer.
Anybody in attendance will be able to bid on any driver that is in the top 12 after the heat races. Bids will start at $30 per driver and go up by at least $10 per bid. After all "B" Mains have been completed, the silent auction will end and the person that won the bid must pay for the their selected driver. Half of the total amount of all the bids will go towards the winning bidder and proceeds from the remainder will go to Special CARE and Special CARE drivers points fund.
If a driver outside of the top 12 wins the race, the money will then go towards the charity and the points fund.
It all happens at the biggest, baddest and most prestigous Modified race in the universe on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Sept. 20-22, at the Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minn., for the 14th Annual Featherlite Fall Jamboree.
More than 100 of the hottest names in the sport will descend upon the Mecca of Modified Racing for the three-day extravaganza.
Special CARE opened its doors in 1985 to provide specialized direct care, education, and therapy services to children with and without special needs. At the time, there was not another day care or after school program in the Oklahoma City metropolitan area designed to meet the needs of children with special needs and the needs of their parents. In fact, the Executive Director and co-founder of Special CARE, Pam Newby, was inspired to establish Special Care because her own daughter, at the time facing childhood leukemia, did not have a school she could continue to attend. The school she had been attending said the family had to leave because of other parents' fears that somehow Amanda's illness might be contagious.
Newby, along with co-founder Joe Dan Trigg, established Special CARE to include children and families who have enormous, overwhelming challenges to face but who also deserve the same opportunities as typically developing children and their families. Since opening their doors, Special CARE has served more than 6,000 children through their direct care programs, and through their outreach training programs they have trained over 5,000 childcare professionals in the skills of caring for children with special needs.
