USMTS Modifieds return to El Paso Speedway Park for ‘Ice Breaker’ Feb. 25-28

EL PASO, Texas—After a thrilling no-holds-barred battle last year, the United States Modified Touring Series returns to the El Paso Speedway Park this February for the 2nd Annual Ice Breaker presented by El Luchador.

Slated for Thursday-Saturday, Feb. 26-28, the event will be the third of four three-day events comprising the MVT Gulf Coast Border Region, and the traveling band of mud-slinging USMTS Modifieds will once again have their hands full with the El Paso Speedway Park regulars from the USRA Modified division.

In last year’s first-ever journey for the USMTS to El Paso, touring stars and local favorites Johnny and Stormy Scott picked up the wins. Following up a successful debut in 2014, this year’s show has been expanded to three days for the best of the best dirt modified pilots on the planet.

In addition to the homecoming for the twin brothers from Las Cruces, N.M., fans can expect to see dozens more of the nation’s elite racers, including Kelly Shryock, Jason Hughes, Terry Phillips, Bryan Rowland, Dereck Ramirez, Joe Duvall, Cade Dillard and two-time defending USMTS National Champion Rodney Sanders of Happy, Texas.

Local favorites expected to defend their home turf include 2014 USRA Modified National Champion Fito Gallardo, Jake Gallardo, Royal Jones, Austin Adams, Max Sadler, Tom Georges and more.

The three-day USMTS Ice Breaker presented by El Luchador will pay $2,000 to win Thursday, $3,000 to win Friday and $4,000 to win Saturday for the USMTS Modifieds. Limited X-Mods, Mini-Sprints and Casa Nissan Legends Cars will also be in action all three days.

Spectator gates open at 5 p.m. with racing at 7 on Thursday and Friday. Gates open at 3 p.m. with racing at 6 on Saturday. Grandstand admission is $10 Thursday, $12 Friday and $15 Saturday. Kids ages 10 and under get in for free all three days. Pit passes are $40 each night.

An open practice for all classes is scheduled for Wednesday night, Feb. 25. Admission to the grandstands is free. Pit passes are $20 each.
