Scott, Dillard best on opening night at Widow Wax Summersota Nationals

FERGUS FALLS, Minn.—The green flag finally waved over the I-94 Speedway in Fergus Falls, Minn., Thursday night as the inaugural Widow Wax Summersota Nationals kicked off with the first round of qualifying for the United States Modified Touring Series.

When the final checkered flag flew following eight talent-rich qualifying races, Stormy Scott of Arroyo Hondo, N.M., stood head and shoulders above the field.

Scott set the tone in the first 12-lap heat race of the night when he bested a 15-car field from start to finish from the outside of the front row.

His second race in Round 2 qualifying was more daunting as he started 13th out of 14th cars, but the results was the same as he blasted around 12 cars in 12 laps to win his second qualifier as well.

Scott’s efforts earned him the highest passing points total of the 57-car field with a massive 16.5-point cushion over Cade Dillard.

Dillard, from Robeline, La., was nearly equally impressive in his first-round qualifying heat as he roared from 12th to third against a stacked field.

His second heat was a runner-up from the third spot and earned him the second-best points total for the night.

A log jam exists for the third ranking with Johnny Scott, Jason Hughes, Travis Saurer and Lucas Schott all tied with 115.5 markers.

Cody Skytland and Tyler Peterson are tied for seventh with 110 points, followed by Brady Gerdes (107) and Jesse Sobbing (106).

The Best of the Best in the sport of dirt modified racing will be back at it again Friday night for Round 2 qualifying at the Widow Wax Summersota Nationals.

Each driver will run four heat races from four different starting positions—two on Thursday and two on Friday. Utilizing each competitor’s best three of four qualifying efforts, passing points will be combined to determine the line-ups for Saturday’s main events.

The top 12 in combined passing points will fill the first four rows of Saturday’s “A” Main. The next 12 (13th through 24th) will be locked into Saturday’s “B” Main, the next 12 drivers (25th-36th) will be locked into the “C” Main and the remainder will run in Last Chance races on Saturday.

The winner of Saturday’s 52-lap finale will take home $15,000 with no less than $1,500 going to each starter.

The event is the second of four Widow Wax Fur-Crown Series events that will be filmed for broadcast on the MAVTV Motorsports Network later this summer.

WISSOTA Midwest Mods and WISSOTA Street Stocks will also be on the bill the next two nights.

Great seats are still available for fans, as well as several unique ways to witness the show including general admission seating, tailgating, RV overnight camping, VIP overnight parking and pit passes.

General admission is $25 Friday and $30 Saturday. Race time is 7 p.m. both days.

Event sponsors include Widow Wax Premium Car Care Products, City of Fergus Falls, Beverage Wholesalers, Viking Coke, Leighten Broadcasting, I-29 Trailer Sales and Polydome.

Out-Pace Racing Products is supporting the WISSOTA Midwest Mods and the WISSOTA Street Stock division is sponsored by The Bowler.

All three days, all three classes, each and every lap will be broadcast live at www.RacinDirt.com.
