Dillard doubles up in USMTS debut at Jackson Motor Speedway

Dillard doubles up in USMTS debut at Jackson Motor Speedway

Cade Dillard grabbed the lead from Trevor Egbert just short of the halfway mark, and then cruised to his second straight Summit Racing USMTS Winter Speedweeks victory Friday night at the Jackson Motor Speedway in Byram, Miss.

Dillard, who captured last Saturday’s finale at the Shady Oaks Speedway, hounded Egbert for the first 18 circuits before using a pair of lapped cars to dive underneath the leader and take control.

From there, the 25-year-old from Robeline, La., went unchallenged the final 22 laps to pocket the $3,000 top prize and his 12th career USMTS triumph.

Tenth-starting Chris Brown continued his early-season surge and came home with the runner-up paycheck, Stormy Scott bested points leader Jason Hughes for third and Egbert held on for a top-five finish.

Zack VanderBeek passed a dozen drivers en route to a sixth-place finish, Travis Saurer went from 14th to seventh, Joe Duvall was eighth, R.C. Whitwell raced to ninth from the 22nd starting spot and Jon Mitchell completed the top 10.

Ashley Newman won the Sybesma Graphics Pole Award Friday night at the Jackson Motor Speedway.

A rain delay put a halt to the racing action at the semi-banked 1/4-mile dirt oval, but the Jackson Motor Speedway track crew kept after the racing surface and racing resumed for the remaining feature races shortly after midnight.

Friday’s event was the first ever for the USMTS at the track with and 47 entries from 14 states in attendance.

Up next, the Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, Miss., rolls out the red carpet at the historic ‘House of Hook’ for another $3,000-to-win event on Saturday night.

Pits gates open at 12 noon and grandstands opening at 3 p.m. Hot laps begin at 5 p.m. and the first heat race gets the green flag at 6 p.m. Spectator admission is $20 for adults, $10 for kids ages 6-12 and free for children ages 5 and under. Pit passes are $35 for adults, $15 for kids ages 6-12 and free for children 5 and under.

A full racing card is slated with the rugged USMTS road warriors being joined by Limited Mods, Nesmith Crate Late Models, Nesmith Street Stocks, Nesmith Late Model Sportsmans, Factory Stocks and Hot Shots/Stingers.

The Holiday Inn in Meridian is the Official Host Hotel of Whynot Motorsports Park. Located at 100 N. Frontage Rd. in Meridian, call (601) 693-0160 and ask for the Whynot Motorsports Park Rate of $83 per night.
