Shryock wins at Dodge City

Team HTL modified drivers Kelly Shryock, Jesse Cramer, and J.P. Karpowicz all had successful weekends, as collectively they reached victory lane twice and landed six Top Five efforts. Kelly had the busiest weekend of the three, as he competed in a trio of events. After the USMTS Series cancelled the two races in Beaver, OK for Wednesday and Thursday, Kelly headed for the 'Night of 1000 Stars' at the Hancock County Speedway in Britt, IA. Kelly was behind the wheel of an IMCA legal, black #83, which was build in honor of Kelly's dad. He won the Race of Champions event and by virtue of that victory, he was challenged to start last in the A-Main for a $5,000 bonus. Kelly took the challenge and very nearly went from "worst to first." He started 25th and advanced up to the third spot before the checkered flags waved over the field. The Fertile, IA driver then brought his familiar #3 Skyrocket Chassis to the Dodge City Speedway in Dodge City, KS for a pair of USMTS events on Friday and Saturday night. He won his heat race on Friday night, as well as the $2,000 to win feature event. Kelly also posted strong finish in the weekend finale on Saturday night, as he drove to a fourth place finish after finishing second in his heat race. Jesse Cramer also racked up a victory for Team HTL over the weekend. Jesse captured the $750 top prize on Friday night at the Bloomington Speedway in Bloomington, IN. After winning his heat race and finishing second in the dash, Jesse drove his #12t to the point on lap three. He relinquished the lead on lap 13 to Shelby Miles, but fought back around Miles on lap 21 to retake the lead for good. Jesse is currently second in the Bloomington (IN) Speedway's point standings and was able to cut off six valuable points off Brady Short's lead. Jesse now trails by 21 points with three point races remaining. Cramer also had a strong run on Saturday night in the Wolfpack Challenge Series event at the Paragon Speedway in Paragon, IN. Jesse was involved in an incident in his heat race, but he won his B-Main event to garner a spot in the A-Main. He worked his way from the tail to finish a solid third in the main event. J.P. Karpowicz had an up-and-down weekend behind the wheel of his red, white, and blue #2 modified. He set fast time in qualifying and finished second in the Quick Six Dash on Friday night at the Ponderosa Speedway in Junction City, KY before problems halted his effort in the A-Main. J.P. was running second in the feature event when the leader tangled with a lapped car. He inherited the lead under caution, only to have his right rear tire go flat under caution. J.P. headed pitside to change tires, but had to go to the tail of the field for the restart. He could only get back up to the eleventh place spot by the end of the event. J.P. was just as fast on Saturday night, but this time he was able to bring home a strong finish. He qualified second fastest and won the Quick Six Dash at the Lake Cumberland Speedway in Somerset, KY. J.P. led the first four laps of the A-Main before being passed by eventual winner Tom Curtsinger. He wound up finishing in the second place position. THE WEEK AHEAD Kelly has a busy week ahead on the USMTS circuit. The six-race week begins tonight at the Upper Iowa Speedway and concludes on Saturday night at the Jackson (MN) Speedway. All six events are slated to pay $2,000 to the winner. Below is Kelly's weeklong schedule. Monday, August 16 - Upper Iowa Speedway, Decorah, IA Tuesday, August 17 - Cresco Speedway, Cresco, IA Wednesday, August 18 - Steele County Fairgrounds, Owatonna, MN Thursday, August 19 - Steele County Fairgrounds, Owatonna, MN Friday, August 20 - Murray County Speedway, Slayton, MN Saturday, August 21 - Jackson Speedway, Jackson, MN Jesse will try to gain valuable points this Friday night at the Bloomington (IN) Speedway.
