USMTS on the clock four straight days leading up to Labor Day

USMTS on the clock four straight days leading up to Labor Day

One week from today just one event will remain in the USMTS Hunt for the Casey’s Cup powered by Summit and the crowning of the 20th United States Modified Touring Series national champion.

Before then, however, the rugged USMTS road warriors have some blockbuster business to attend to with four nights of fast and furious competition on four dirt ovals in Northern Iowa and Southern Minnesota.

The final surge begins this Thursday, Aug. 30, when the series returns to the Rapid Speedway in Rock Rapids, Iowa, for some unfinished business from last Friday. From there, the series heads to the Fayette County Speedway in West Union, Iowa, on Friday, Aug. 31, and the Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minn., on Saturday, Sept. 1. On the eve of Labor Day, the quadrupleheader wraps up at the Cresco Speedway in Cresco, Iowa on Sunday, Sept. 2.

RAPID SPEEDWAY – The touring USMTS titans ramble back into Rock Rapids, Iowa, as the Rapid Speedway hosts the 10th Annual Coral Lanes Rapid Rumble—for a second time—this Thursday, Aug. 30.

Fans witnessed a classic back-and-forth feature race last year that ended with Dereck Ramirez scoring his first victory since 2015, but this past Friday saw Mother Nature intervene and force race officials to postpone the event until this Thursday.

Tickets and wristbands from Friday’s show will be honored this Thursday. Those with tickets and/or wristbands who cannot return this Thursday can get a full refund by mailing them to the Rapid Speedway at 400 S. Tama St., Rock Rapids, IA 51246.

The Iron Man Challenge featuring Holley USRA Stock Cars and Out-Pace USRA B-Mods will also be in action for the Dave Mulder Memorial, along with Cook Racing Supplies USRA Hobby Stocks. The show will kick off with a feature race for the Iron Man Stock Cars that was rained out June 1 and again last Friday.

In the nine previous USMTS events held at the Lyons County Fairgrounds, only Rodney Sanders has visited victory lane twice. Other former winners here include Cade Dillard, Cory Crapser, Zack VanderBeek, Jason Krohn, Jon Tesch and Kelly Shryock.

The pits open at 5 p.m., spectator gates open at 5:30, hot laps begin at 7 and the first heat race hits the track at 7:30. Grandstand tickets are $20 for adults, $12 for teens and free for children 6 and under. A pit pass is $25.

The Rapid Speedway is a semi-banked 3/8-mile dirt oval located 0.5 mile east of US 75 on SR 9, then 0.5 mile south on South Tama St. (400 S. Tama St., Rock Rapids, IA 51246). For more information, call (712) 470-1850 or (712) 472-3742 or visit www.rockrapidsspeedway.com online.

FAYETTE COUNTY SPEEDWAY – Friday’s show at the Fayette County Speedway in West Union, Iowa, will be the sixth visit by the USMTS since 2007 when Jason Krohn won the inaugural event here.

Jake Neal picked up his first and only USMTS victory the following year, and Ryan Gustin won here in 2009. Zack VanderBeek got the win here in 2016 and Gustin became the first two-time winner of this event last year.

Presented by KAR Auto Group of Decorah, the Iron Man Challenge featuring Holley USRA Stock Cars and Out-Pace USRA B-Mods will join the action. Cook Racing Supplies USRA Hobby Stocks are on the card too, and competing in their Season Championship event.

The pit gate opens at 4 p.m., grandstands open at 4:30, hot laps begin at 7 and racing starts at 7:30. Spectator tickets are $20 for those ages 12 and older. Kids ages 11 and under get in free with a paid adult. Pit passes are $30.
