USMTS blastoff delayed, King of America IX on deck

The 2019 USMTS campaign will have to wait one more week before blasting off. This week’s three-night excursion through Texas has been canceled due to heavy rain last night in the Dallas-Fort Worth area causing saturated grounds at the facilities. Near-freezing low temperatures this week also played a role in the decision.

The event scheduled for Saturday at the Superbowl Speedway in Greenville will now take place on Tuesday, May 7, while tomorrow night’s event at the 82 Speedway in Petty will move to Wednesday, May 8. The show at the Kennedale Speedway Park has not been rescheduled.

The new dates create an exciting five-night stretch through the Lone Star State. On Thursday, May 9, the USMTS invades the Monarch Motor Speedway in Wichita Falls and then tackles the West Texas Raceway in Lubbock on Friday, May 10. The week of speed wraps up Saturday, May 11, with the 10th Annual Amarillo Ambush at the Route 66 Motor Speedway in Amarillo.

Here’s the new Summit USMTS Southern Series 2019 schedule:

April 5 ... Jackson Motor Speedway, Byram, Miss.
April 6 ... Whynot Motorsports Park, Meridian, Miss.
April 7 ... Magnolia Motor Speedway, Columbus, Miss.
April 11-13 ... Ark-La-Tex Speedway, Vivian, La.
May 3-5 ... Vado Speedway Park, Vado, N.M.
May 7 ... Superbowl Speedway, Greenville, Texas
May 8 ... 82 Speedway, Petty, Texas
May 9 ... Monarch Motor Speedway, Wichita Falls, Texas
May 10 ... West Texas Raceway, Lubbock, Texas
May 11 ... Route 66 Motor Speedway, Amarillo, Texas
Oct. 31-Nov. 2 ... Kennedale Speedway Park, Kennedale, Texas

One week from now, the King of America IX powered by Summit takes place at the Humboldt Speedway in Humboldt, Kan., March 21-23, along with the 5th Annual B-Mod Battle at the Bullring.

A top prize of $12,000 awaits the winner of the year’s first USMTS crown jewel event while the B-Mod champ will take home $8,500.

Drivers in both classes will race in two heat races Thursday and two more on Friday from four different starting positions with 10 to 14 cars in each. Each driver’s best three efforts will count toward Saturday’s feature lineups with any tie-breakers, if needed, being determined by the fourth heat race.

The top 12 in heat race passing points from the first two nights will be locked into the Saturday finale with the remainder of the field coming from Saturday’s “B” Mains.

B-Mods will award three provisionals (one each from IMCA, USRA and Wissota national points) from the pool of drivers that fail to qualify for the “A” Main. The B-Mod portion of the show will no longer be a USRA Arnold Motor Supply Iron Man Challenge event.

Since the early entry deadline has passed, drivers wishing to enter the Battle at the Bullring may do so. The entry fee is $200. There will be an open practice on Wednesday, March 20, which will be the only time for hot laps during the week’s event. The pits gate opens at noon and practice is from 6-9 p.m. Pit passes are $20 for adults or $10 for kids ages 5-10. Admission to the grandstands is free.
