Noble & Myer pick up wins at Steele County Fair

OWATONNA, Minn. (Aug. 16, 2001) - Mark Noble Blooming Prairie, MN who has been having a very tough year with the USMTS picked up his second win of the season on the first night of racing at the Steele County Fair in Owatonna, MN. The first night of racing was wet and chilly as it has been the last three years. The racing surface was very fast as rain hit the area the night before and light mist hit the track early on raceday. Fifty-one cars checked in for the racing action on Wednesday night. Racing would start with all the heat races before the rain would come in again and end the racing for the night. USMTS officials and the Steele County Fairboard would call the racing a complete show and run the B-mains and the Simpson Race Products A-main before the Thursday night show. All five Harris Auto Racing Heat Races were run and Willy Kraft, Kevin Stoa, Todd Ihde, Rick Gustin, and Johnny Bone would pick up wins. The racing resumed on Thursday for the Midwest Motorsports B-mains where you would find the #74 Dirt Works car of Mark Noble running after motor troubles. Noble would start at the tail of the B-main and finish second to Doug Hillson. That would give Noble a eighth row starting spot in the A-main. Kelly Shryock Lemars, IA would jump into the early lead and look as if he has the car to beat. Kevin Stoa Polk City, IA would go by Shryock on the outside of turns 3-4 and put some distance between Shryock. A yellow flag would bunch these drivers back together and the man on the move was Noble. Noble would get by Stoa on lap nineteen and cruise on to the victory. Rounding out the top five was Stoa, Tim Donlinger, Willy Kraft and Jay Ihrke. The Midwest Motorsports B-mains were won by Ron Schreiner and Doug Hillson.

Another complete show was started after all the excitement of the first race was completed. Forty-eight cars checked in for Thursday races. Tommy Myer Blooming Prairie, MN who picked up his new Kraft Kar at the end of May has been one of the most consistent drivers in his new car not finishing out of the top ten yet started the race from the front row outside and pulled away from the rest of the field. Mark Noble had better ideas after winning the first race Noble redrew the #8 frisbee and had to start in the fourth row. Noble would pass Myer on lap nine and put distance between the field. A late yellow on lap 27 would see the leader of Mark Noble take his #74 Dirt Works to the infield with trouble giving the lead back to Myer. Myer would cruise on to victory picking up his first USMTS win of the season at his hometrack. A packed grandstand witnessed some very exciting racing with two more winners in the USMTS. Rounding out the top five was Willy Kraft, Tim Donlinger, Ron Schreiner, and Jason Hughes. The Harris Auto Racing Heat Races were won by Kelly Shryock, Mark Noble, Tim Donlinger, Todd Stinehart, and Mike Chasteen. The Midwest Motorsports B-mains were won by Willy Kraft and Johnny Bone. Next race for the USMTS will be at the Chateau Raceway Lansing, MN on Wednesday August 22 then moving to the Dodge County Speedway in Kasson, MN on Thursday August 23. The north region last points race of the season will be the Harris All Star Challenge Race at Park Jefferson Speedway Thursday August 30.
