Martin masters intense action at McAllen

McALLEN, Texas (Jan. 31, 2003) - The racing action was as intense as the previous night, and there was another photo finish at the checkered flag on the second night of the USMTS Winternationals at Rio Grande Speedway.

Tonight it was between Scott Drake, Eddie Martin and Johnny Bone, with Martin picking up the win by inches over Bone.

Jason Hughes started the race from the outside pole and led the first three laps over Randy Zimmerman before Martin came from the sixth starting spot and went by Hughes.

Martin had some heated battles with Hughes, Drake and Bone over the next 30 laps. Hughes and Bone got together late in the race and Hughes slid off the back of the track and had to settle with a seventh-place finish.

Rounding out the top 5 behind Martin, Bone and Drake were Steve Kosiski and Skeet Amason.

The A-main and two 22-car B-mains ran with only two cautions flags.

Racing action will continue Saturday night, Feb. 1, with the final night of racing action.
