Shryock wins day 2 of USMTS Fall Festival

OSKALOOSA, Iowa -- Kelly Shryock topped the 66-car field on day two of the USMTS Fall Festival at Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, IA on Friday, October 10. It was Shryock's second victory in as many days during the three-day event.

At the drop of the green flag, late model veteran Ray Guss Jr. took the lead from his front row outside starting position. The "River City Hustler" led the first ten laps of the 30-lap USMTS A-Main. Shryock would catch Guss working the eleventh lap and take the lead. Guss applied pressure on the leader for the next couple of circuits, but eventual last the lead hunt.

Shryock would cruise to the win in the caution-free USMTS A-Main. Capping off a great year, Shryock stated in victory lane that he was at a loss for words.

"This is the most features we've ever won in a year, and we've clinched our (USMTS) points (Championship) for the year," Shryock expressed on the front stretch after the races. When asked about the orange Skyrocket Chassis number "3" (a tribute car in honor of his father Bob Shryock) modified he was leaning against in the winner's circle, Shryock smiled, "He's my hero, my dad."

Corey Dripps started fourteenth, and he made an impressive run to the front. Dripps drove his AFCO Racing number "31" high and low towards the front. Dripps erased a twelve car-length gap on second place running Guss during the last five laps. Dripps pulled underneath of off turn four and would take second at the line by a tire.

"We gained on him (Guss) on the last five laps, but I didn't think he would get as lose as he did coming off of (turn) four," Dripps commented about the last lap pass after the race. "I went in a 'diamonded' the corner, and it just played out in our favor. I think we might have had something for the '3' (of Shryock)."

Guss, driving the Harris Chassis number "12" modified finished third.

Dan Bohr and Jason Hughes rounded out the top five.
