Shryock tops USMTS feature at I-44

LEBANON, Mo. -- Current USMTS point leader Kelly Shryock found 8 to be his lucky number as the Iowa veteran grabbed control on the 8th lap from leader Jason Krohn and never looked back in recording the feature win Sat Night at the Lebanon I-44 Speedway over a 42 car field in a feature which saw the 30 lapper go flawlessly in the Modified Touring Series first ever apperance at the high-banks.

Shryock, who had gathered the 7th most passing point, redraw the number 8 qualifying spot as the 24 car field came down to take the green flag after a wonderful 4 wide flag salute to the crowd.

Pole setter Nicholas Little John fell to the back after pace laps and as the green flew,Krohn jumped out to an early lead as Tommy Myer was applying heavy pressure on the inside lane.On lap 2,the only yellow would wave as Steve Picou would get caught on the ridge in turn 1 as Shryock had charged up to 4 in two short laps.On the restart,Krohn and Myer put on a side-by-side battle as Shryock and Jason Hughes went to battle, but Kelly's Skyrocket Chassis made short work of that as he moved into 3rd.On lap 8,Shryock powered the low side around both Myer and Krohn and never looked back as Scott Drake was charging hard from his 16th starting spot to gather in the top 10 and was moving quickly. On lap 10, Jason Hughes went to the top of the speedway and moved around Myer to gather in 3rd place and reeled in Krohn to take over the runner-up spot. With the 30 lap feature staying grren and clean, leader Shryock began lapping traffic on lap 15 as Hughes was starting to close in slowly. While the top 5 were locked into position with Shryock,Hughes,Myer,Krohn, and Johhny Bone Jr.,the battle for 6th was hot and heavy as Drake and George White had disposed of Steve Holzkamper and went to war for the position.

As the checkered flew,Shryock pulled to a 12 car length advantage over Hughes followed by Myer, early leadr Krohn, and Bone Jr at the line.

"This place is awesome"quoted the winner,"We need to move it to Iowa so that it's closer to me.The car was working anyway and we all had plently of racing room in this event. The Tier parking is a neat place, and the track was in good shape all night long, very smooth and racy.I would love to come back here for another big show, and I truly hope the fans enjoyed this event, because we enjoyed putting it on"

The LateModel feature would see I-44 point leader Darrell Mooneyham jump from his front row pole spot to lead the early laps was Shane Essary was locked into second place after getting around Brain Schutt.

With Mooneyham opening up as much as a 12 car length lead,Essary found the top groove to his liking and began to reel in the area longtime veteran. On lap 17,Essary to his Clayton Homes/Larry Shaw #15 to the top side and pulled off the pass, only to have Mooneyham pull back alongside of him 2 laps later.Coming off turn 2,Essary gathered back up the top spot and claimed the 1,000 to win prize money and became the 3rd generation of Essary's to win a LateModel feature in the history of I-44 Speedway."The car was good later in the race on the top side, and Darrell gave me plenty of racing room, but when he pulled along side of me in 1,I thought I was in trouble, but the car stuck good coming out of 2." Following the lead duo to the line were Brain Schutt, Danny Atkinson, and Mike Montague at the stripe.

Larry Prewitt continued his winning ways in SuperStock action as he ran down defending champion Mike Joplin on lap 12 to record his 9th feature win this season.Following the lead pair to the line were early leader Tim Petty,Kelly Wallander, and Bobby Menzie.

The FactoryStock Feature would see Rookie Robbie Bryant jump from his front row spot to lead early until lap 6,when Burl Woods along with Jordan Holloway made the move around. On lap 7,Holloway while contending would have a right rear tire go flat and Woods would hold off late race repeated challanges from point leader Micheal Maggard to gather up his second win of the season.Following them to the line was Steve Schultz, early leader Bryant and Chuck Risner.

THe bomber feature had a last lap dramatic finish as David Hendrix led the field down to the green and would lead the opening 9 laps until a late race caution for Chris Pitts put last weeks winner Dusty Rhoades on Hendrix back bumper. On the restart,Hendrix held a good low line, but on lap 10,Rhoades pulled off the winning pass in turn 2 to claim his second win of the season followed by Brandon Knudtson,Justin Foust and James Flood.

Over 110 cars checked into the pits with drivers from over 10 states on hand for the racing action.Next weekend the points battles continue as the MidWest Limited Sprints will be on hand and the following week, the Speedway will host it's July 4th celebration with the Fireworks show and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Driver Carl Edwards on hand.Gates open at 5 with hotlaps at 7 and racing at 7:30 sharp.
