Shryock, Brown, Steinke in USMTS action at Southern Iowa Speedway

OSKALOOSA, Iowa -- The United States Modified Touring Series returned to the Southern Iowa Speedway on Wednesday August 4th and it looked as if another new driver would pick up the win as Brad Pinkerton led till the final lap and Kelly Shryock took the top line going down the backstretch making Pinkerton settle with a third place finish.

Shryock thinking he had cleared the 17p Dirt Works made Pinkerton get on the brakes allowing Tommy Myer to get by leaving Brad with a career best third place finish.

Pinkerton started the race fourth and used the high side of the speedway to find the fastest way around the track.

In turns three and four Pinkerton was on a rail and would pull all cars by four to five car lengths, but would struggle in turns one and two allowing drivers to catch back up.

At the finish Pinkerton found that part of the problem was half of his tire wore off allowing Shryock and Myer to keep pace.

If it wouldn’t have been for the tire wearing off Pinkerton would have easily picked up his first ever Holley A-main.

Shryock would pick up his fifteenth Holley A-main win in the process.

In the USRA stock car class Rick Brown became the tenth different winner picking up his first win of the season.

Brown didn’t take the top spot until late in the race as three drivers were fighting for the top spot.

Brown would come out on top and take the top spot and pocket the $400 to win main event.

Rounding out the top five was TJ Criss, Josh Newell, Brian Fullenkamp, and Zack Vanderbeek.

In USRA Hobby Stock action a very familiar face was in victory lane for the third straight time as Mark Steinke picked up the win and added to his point lead.

Steinke took the top spot early in the race and picked up the win and pocketed the $300 to win main event.

Rounding out the top five was Pat Rachels, Steve Allen, Nathan Wood, and Mike Shelton.

Weekly racing will continue on Wednesday August 18th after taking one week off for the sprint car races, which will be held on Monday and Tuesday.

For all the racefans that still want to see some great racing action the First Annual Sunoco Stock Car Shootout will be held at the Bentz GM Country Scotland County Speedway in Memphis, MO this Tuesday and Wednesday August 10-11.

The winner of this event will be guaranteed a starting spot in the $10,000 to win Stock Car Challenge to be held August 23-25 at the Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, IA.

Hope to see everyone in Memphis on Tuesday and Wednesday or August 18th at the Southern Iowa Speedway.
