Thomas Berry Jr.

Berry Jr. Battles in King of America XII

Tom Berry Jr. invaded Humboldt (Kan.) Speedway for the King of America XII.

After a practice session on Wednesday night the mega event roared to life on Thursday as 62 United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) competitors entered the event.

After qualifying second fastest in his group, he slipped back to an eighth-place finish in his heat race, which relegated him to a B-Main. Advancing from 11th to seventh in his B-Main, left Tom short of qualifying for the feature.

He was able to utilize a series' provisional to start 25th on the grid for the 35-lap feature. Passing nine cars in the main event, Berry Jr. crossed the finish line in 16th.

Friday's program was washed away.

The finale took center stage on Saturday night with a $12,000-to-win top prize on the line. Tom qualified fourth fastest in his group to earn the third-starting spot for his heat race. He ran as high as the second position before heading pitside on lap 8.

He was mired deep in a B-Main, and manage to advance from 16th to sixth, but with only the Top-4 finishers moving onto the 60-lap finale, his night and weekend ended early.

Full results from the weekend are available at www.USMTS.com.
