Shryock conquers Cresco

CRESCO, Iowa -- Seven-time defending O’Reilly Auto Parts United States Modified Touring Series national champion Kelly Shryock of Fertile, Iowa, scored a dominating victory Thursday at the Cresco (Iowa) Speedway for the 2nd Annual Featherlite Cresco Clash. The $2,000 victory was Shryock's second of the season at the high-banked 3/8-mile oval, and his 16th overall on the 2006 O’Reilly USMTS campaign.

From the pole, Shryock waded through four cautions and 35 laps en route to the victory over Mark Noble of Blooming Prairie, Minn. Zack VanderBeek of New Sharon, Iowa, picked up the third-place paycheck, while Jon Tesch of Watertown, S.D., finished fourth. Tommy Myer of Blooming Prairie, Minn., rounded out the top five finishers.

With the win, Shryock extended his points lead in an array of categories including the O’Reilly National Driver points, Reich Concrete/Yeager Machine Northeast Region, National Home Pride Passing Points and the AMSOIL Lap Leader Award. It also extended the advantage for Shryock's Skyrocket Chassis company in the UNIJIG Builders Championship rankings.

The Olympic Fire Protection Hard Charger honors went to Darin Duffy of Hazelton, Iowa, who started 20th and finished 7th.

The four-race weekend continues for the O’Reilly USMTS on Friday, July 14, at the Fox Ridge Speedway in Arcadia, Wis., before wrapping up on Saturday, July 15, at the Jackson (Minn.) Speedway for the 28th Annual Jackson Nationals.
