Shryock’s record-setting run rolls on at Bloomfield

BLOOMFIELD, Iowa -- Kelly Shryock of Fertile, Iowa, captured his record-setting 11th consecutive O’Reilly Auto Parts United States Modified Touring Series main event Friday night at the Mountain Dew Bloomfield Speedway in Bloomfield, Iowa. The seven-time defending O’Reilly USMTS national champ pocketed $2,000 for the win in the Inaugural Summer Shootout presented by HeartlandMotorsports.com.

From the third starting spot, Al Hejna of Clear Lake, Iowa, jumped out to lead the first lap before outside front row starter Michael Long of Quincy, Ill., secured the top spot. Long paced the field for the next 8 laps before another Clear Lake driver, Dean Mahlstedt, gained control of the point.

Mahlstedt's turn at the front of the field was short-lived, however, as Shryock grabbed the lead on lap 14 and proceeded to lead the final 16 laps for his 26th victory of the 2006 season. Too late to make a run at the leader, Jason Hughes of Colcord, Okla., slipped into the second spot while Mahlstedt hung on to finish third. Brad Pinkerton of New Sharon, Iowa, started 16th and passed a dozen competitors to finish fourth and earn the Olympic Fire Protection Hard Charger honors. Early leader Long rounded out the top five.

On Saturday, Aug. 5, this week's five-race swing winds down with a Central-Southern co-regional race at the Pepsi Scotland County Speedway in Memphis, Mo. The winner of the 2nd Annual Memphis Shootout presented by Walker Motor & Collision and Spilman Auto Parts will pocket $2,000. USRA Casey’s General Stores Weekly Racing Series action featuring USRA Stock Cars, Advance Trading USRA B-Mods, USRA Hobby Stocks, Outlaw Hobbies and Hornets (Open Rules) are also on the menu.
