Onawa show postponed to Aug. 7

ONAWA, Iowa -- Officials from the O’Reilly Auto Parts United States Modified Touring Series have announced that the races for this Friday and Saturday, April 13-14, at the Blackbird Bend Speedway in Onawa, Iowa, have been postponed due to inclement weather. The 2nd Annual Double Down Showdown will now be a one-day $2,000-to-win show and will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 7.

The event slated for this Sunday, April 15, at the Quad City Raceway in E. Moline, Ill., is still on as scheduled. The Inaugural Spring Clash will see the rugged O’Reilly USMTS road warriors travel to the high-banked quarter-mile oval for the first time to take on the top-shelf competition in the Quad Cities area.

In addition to the season debut of Blooming Prairie, Minn.'s Tommy Myer, some of the O’Reilly USMTS drivers expected include eight-time defending O’Reilly USMTS national champion Kelly Shryock, last year’s title runner-up Zack VanderBeek, Al and Mike Hejna, Brad McEwan, Mark Noble, Scott Green, Cale Sponsler, Jay Noteboom and many more.

Among the regional entries expected for the Quad City Raceway event are 1999 NASCAR Weekly Racing Series national champion Jeff Leka, last year's Featherlite Fall Jamboree winner Chad Kinder and 2005 UMP Modified national champ Denny Schwartz.

Sunday's Inaugural Spring Clash will pay $2,000 to win and a minimum $250 to start. Also on the racing card will be Street Stocks ($250 to win), B-Mods ($250 to win) and 4-Cylinders ($150 to win).

Grandstand and pit gates open at 3 p.m., with hot laps at 5:30 and racing at 6.

Reserved seats are $12.50, general admission adult tickets are $12, seniors get in for $10, kids ages 6-12 are $6 and children under 6 get in for FREE. Pit passes are $25.

The Quad City Raceway is located off of I-80 at Exit 7, then 0.9 mile west, then right, then 4.2 miles west on Colona Rd., then east on Archer St. (at the Rock Island County Fairgrounds). For day-of-race information, call the track hotline at (309) 644-1977 or visit www.quadcityraceway.com online.
