Third time not a charm for USMTS at Freeport

FREEPORT, Ill. (Sept. 20, 2001) - The Freeport, Ill., area received more than 4 inches of rain on Wednesday night and another 3 inches Thursday night, forcing the cancellation of the two-day United States Modified Touring Series event at Freeport Raceway Park.

The race will be run next spring as there are no more dates available to race this season.

This was the third time USMTS officials tried to get the race in. The series was in Freeport in May for a three-race swing. Teams were just getting ready for hot laps when the rain set in and put a halt to the racing. The race was then rescheduled for August, but rain set in again and put a stop to the racing for a second time.

For more information, call the USMTS office at 515-832-7944.
